Singer and songwriter Joaquín Sabina was born in Úbeda, Spain, in February 12, 1949. At the age of 14, Sabina started writing poems, getting connected with music as a member of a teenager's rockabilly band called The Merry Youngs. Sabina's poetry and music skills were extended to acting while being part of Juan Panadero's theatrical company. In 1976, his book Memorias del Exilio was published and its lyrics were Sabina's inspiration to record his first album in 1978. El Inventario was followed by Malas Compañias, the first one for CBS. While the artist's popularity as a songwriter was growing, Sabina's lyrics started being requested by well-known Hispanic singers. In 1985, Sabina left CBS, signing up to the Ariola label. Joaquín Sabina y Viceversa was recorded live during two successful shows performed at Salamanca Theater on February 14 and 15, 1986. The following studio record came in 1987. Hotel, Dulce Hotel sold over 400,000 copies. In 1992, Sabina went on tour, performing almost 200 shows around the world. In 1997, the artist was recognized as the Best Spanish Rock and Pop Songwriter by the Spanish Songwriters Association (SGAE). This LP, released in 1999, this is probably the best of his works. Astonishingly good despite his very very broken voice. However at this time in age, one does not listen to Sabina because of his superb singing abilities but because of his wit, irony, and cynical stance. Bucketloads of those in here. Highly recommended.

Charles Aznavour (born Shahnour Vaghenag Aznavourian on May 22, 1924, in Paris) is a French singer, songwriter, actor, public activist and diplomat of Armenian descent. Besides being one of France's most popular and enduring singers, he is also one of the most well-known singers in the world. He is known for his characteristic short figure and unique tenor voice; clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravely and profound low notes. He has appeared in more than 60 movies, composed about 1,000 songs (including at least 150 in English, 100 in Italian, 70 in Spanish, and 50 in German), and sold well over 100 million records. In 1998, Charles Aznavour was chosen as Entertainer of the Century by CNN and users of Time Online from around the globe. He was recognized as the century's outstanding performer, with nearly 18% of the total vote, edging out Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. He has sung for presidents, popes, and royalty, as well as at humanitarian events, and is the founder of the charitable organization Aznavour for Armenia along with his long-time friend and impresario Levon Sayan. Aznavour started his global farewell tour in late 2006, which continues through this day. Luz Casal (born November 11, 1958 at Boimorto, is a Spanish pop singer. She grew up in neighbouring Asturias, took singing, piano and ballet classes, and moved to Madrid to pursue a career as a musician. She became famous in the early 1980s, and remained an important figure in Spanish pop music all through said decade and beyond, with her sound gradually maturing towards soft adult pop. She recorded a cover version of Étienne Daho's French language song "Duel au Soleil" in Spanish called "Un nuevo día brillará", which became a hit song. In 1992 she enjoyed great success with her appearance in the soundtrack of Pedro Almodóvar's acclaimed film Tacones Lejanos singing Agustín Lara's theme "Piensa en mí". In January 2007, Luz Casal was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent an operation at the Ruber Clinic in Madrid.[citation needed], seven months later, she revealed to the Spanish media that she had overcome her disease. Her first name, Luz, means “light” in Spanish.

In 2007, Joan Manuel Serrat and Joaquín Sabina went on tour together. The show was called Dos Pájaros de un Tiro (Two Birds with One Stone) and they recorded a CD of it, which also includes a DVD of the concert and a documentary.

Antonio Machado was one of Spain's 20th century's best poets. Raised in Andalucía, his poetry has become national common culture and this album greatly contributed to that. Serrat, himself a notable poet as well as the most important songwriter of Spain for the past thirty five years, composed excellent music for a handful of Machado's poems. The result is incredibly beautiful, with an match between tempo and meaning so outstanding that for the not-so-well-read it might be difficult to digest the news that it was not Serrat's own lyrics. This is a magic combination of two of Iberia's best: a poet with a word tried by Spain's trials and tribulations; a singer with a voice which evokes Spain. The result? A few songs with an expression that portraits the elation and passion of the true Spanish heart. For those who understand the Spanish language there probably cannot be a better touch of it, of its earnest people, and their buoyant perspective to life.
